I am the type of person who loves "Fridays". Ever since I was a kid in school, this was the one day of the week I looked forward to. As I got older the feeling never changed. Saturday mornings are great when I can sleep in but nothing will get me up in the morning during the normal work week than knowing today is Friday. And for some it's pay day which is an added bonus for the excitement.
Because it's Friday, I get up with a little more spring in my step. I might even hum a tune which will never happen on Mondays. I will find myself running ahead of schedule instead of running behind. And if you catch up first thing in the morning, you might see me smiling before 8am.
But I was thinking this morning as I woke up with my Friday smile, with my Friday hum and with the spring in my step. This is the exact attitude we are suppose to wake up with everyday expecting the Lord to come back today.
1st Thessalonians 4 tells us that Christ will descend from heaven with a shout. Talk about excitement. But it also warns me in Chapter 5 not to be found asleep in looking for his return. Each morning should be welcomed with a song on my heart, a spring in my step and a smile on my face knowing that today I could be arriving at my eternal home in heaven.
"Lord, help me to realize that this could be my last day on earth. But for me to be absent from this body is to be present with you. And what a glorious day that will be!"
- it will even be better than my Fridays!
