When I think about the 4Th of July holiday, I can't help but think about the word "freedom". It will be used in speeches, outdoor event conversations, printed on flags and banners, etc... But I hate to think this world knows nothing about freedom unless they have a relationship with Jesus Christ.

I seem to wonder how many Christians really understand what freedom I have in Christ. Just because I have accepted Christ as my Savior doesn't really mean that I am in a place to feel free.

Freedom from the cares of this world.
Freedom from the guilt of sin.
Freedom from the pressures and stress of trying to keep up with the pace set by others.

But if I am truly living according to God's word, I know what freedom is all about.

If I would just worry more about my relationship with Christ rather than trying to keep up with this world, I would know all about freedom. If I would realize that my sin has been forgiven and forgotten by God, then I would know all about freedom. And the truth is, this type of freedom is available. But only to those who are truly committed to having a relationship with Christ. Not for those who want to be a Christian one day a week. Freedom is a result of committment to Christ!

John 8:36 says, "Who the Son sets free is free indeed."

Prayer:
"Lord, help me today to focus on pleasing You and no one else. When others try to bring me down or cause me to stumble help me to keep my composure and keep my eyes on You."
