I can remember growing you up as a kid watching mom get her grocery list together. She would have all of her coupons that she found in the local paper and she would match up her coupons with her list.
Do you sometimes feel like you are just creating a "grocery list" for God when you pray?
How man times have you ever prayed a prayer to just say, "Thank you God!" without adding any request to the end of it?
Psalms 118:29
"Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good..."
When we pray, we should not look at it as a grocery list, Santa's list, or our demands for the day. When God said in His word to pray without ceasing, He wanted open communication with us at all times. Many us will not even talk with Him unless we have a serious situation facing us. Then, we are falling on our knees and crying out to Him.
Why not try to just talk with Him all day long instead of waiting until you are in desperate need? And don't forget to thank him because He is good. I can think of many things that have taken place this weekend that I could give thanks for...without adding any more request!
Prayer:
"Lord, today I just want to say Thank you! You bless us with things we don't deserve and hear our prayer list everyday. Today, its all about what you have already done and how appreciative I am for your listening ear and actions to my needs."
