Have you ever been talking to someone and you ask them one simple question to have it turn into a story that has nothing to do with your question? On Sand Mountain we call it "chasin' rabbits". They are just folks who easily get off track. Just one simple thought could have them so far away from the subject matter at hand.
But all of us are that way. You may not be able to tell it when we are speaking but our human minds have been trained by this world to not focus on just one thing at a time. We can't drive down the road unless we are talking on the cell phone. We can't watch television unless we are eating something. We can't take out the garbage when Alabama football is on....AMEN!
In the book of Proverbs we are given some great instructions.
Proverbs 4:25 - "Let your eyes look directly ahead, and let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you."
The writer understands fully how our minds operate. He knows that if we do not train our eyes to keep our focus on God's will (straight ahead) that we will be taken off course by the enemy. When you are looking straight ahead you won't be able to focus on things that happened to you in the past. When you are looking straight ahead you won't be tempted to stray off course from where God wants you.
Don't be persuaded off the course in which God has put you. There will be many times today you will want to entertain certain thoughts or respond to certain situations but put it to the test. If it will take you off course than you don't need to respond.
Prayer: "God, help us today to keep our eyes focused on You. Help us realize that you are situated right in front of us so there is no reason to look to our left, look to our right or even look behind us because that is not where you want us to go."
